The World Poker Tour (WPT) Borgata Poker Open Main Event kicked off on Sunday with the first of two starting flights. 271 entries were tallied on the day, though expect loads more on Monday. Leading the 129 survivors into Day 2 is Mukharji Uppalapati with 252,400 chips.

The Borgata Poker Open is one of the few “old guard” stops on the World Poker Tour, having been part of the schedule since Season II (we are now in Season XVIII). It began as one of the biggies on the live tournament calendar, boasting a $10,000 buy-in. But like most of the WPT Main Events, the buy-in was decreased on a number of years ago to encourage more signups. In Season VIII, the buy-in was set at $3,500, which is where it has been ever since.

At the same time, unlimited re-entries are permitted all the way through the first two levels of Day 2. Thus, the WPT Borgata Poker Open can draw more players with the lower buy-in, but the re-entries can still goose the prize pool.

The World Poker Tour (WPT) Borgata Poker Open Main Event kicked off on Sunday with the first of two starting flights. 271 entries were tallied on the day, though expect loads more on Monday. It’s never too early to make plans for the 2019 Winter Poker Open, which runs January 15th – February 1st, and returns to Borgata’s spacious Event Center venue. The series will be capped by the World Poker Tour Winter Poker Open Championship, January 27-31.

Day 1A was pretty darn competitive at the top of the leaderboard. Asher Conniff is close behind Uppalapati with 247,800. Three other players beat the 200,000 mark: Ryan Olisar (229,700), Bruce Kramer (211,600), and Larry Ormson (204,600). Lucas Drolet was also just a few hundred chips underneath the 200,000 chip plateau.

Uppalapati is essentially a regional player, hailing from Gaithersburg, Maryland. His $112,454 in live earnings are all fairly small, the largest of which is about $25,000. Most of his cashes have come at Maryland Live! Casino and all but one is at a Maryland venue. The lone holdout is his biggest cash, which came from a sixth place finish in a preliminary event at the WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open this past January.

The plan for today is the exact as yesterday. After all, it would not be fair to players in either starting flight if Days 1A and 1B differed. There will be eight hour-long levels with 15-minute breaks every two levels. Interestingly (or not, I don’t know), there will be no dinner break. The first two levels of Day 2, during which players can still register and re-enter, will also be 60 minutes. After that, they will be 75 minutes for the rest of Tuesday. The big blind ante is in effect from the jump.

The eventual winner of the tournament will have some big shoes to fill. Last year’s champ was Erkut Yilmaz who then went on to win WPT Rolling Thunder and the WPT Player of the Year award.

Jackob Datashvili – 1st Place – 2019 BSPO Championship

The $1 Million Guaranteed 2019 Borgata Summer Poker Open Championship fielded 514 entrants and created a prize pool in excess of $1.2 million. The final table was Live Streamed on Twitch TV and Borgata’s Facebook page and the audience watched as Jackob Datashvili made the right reads and caught the cards when he needed them. He went from next-to-last in the final table chip counts to taking home the 2019 BSPO trophy and $276,129* for 1st Place.

The series started off with a bang with the $1 Million Guaranteed $540+$60 Deep Stack Kick-Off, which saw 1,925 entrants try their luck in six starting flights over three days. At the final table, Edwin Ortiz held the chip lead when the final seven players opted to call it a day. He took 1st place, the trophy, and $105,000* in a seven-way adjusted payout.

Adam Reese took 1st Place in both the Deeper Stack and Almighty Stack NLH events.

Now another Open Series is in the books and 19 Borgata Summer Poker Open trophies have new homes. In fact, two of them went to the same home. Adam Reese etched his name in the record books when he won two main events during this series, the $260+$40 Deeper Stack NLH ($14,805) and the $400+$50 Almighty Stack NLH ($68,806*). The poker dealer from Pennsylvania may be considering a new career.

Ari Engel – 1st Place – Black Chip Bounty post-lim

After earning nine WSOP Circuit rings, Ari Engel finally won his first WSOP bracelet this summer in the $2,500 NLH event. Now just a month later, Engel has added a third Borgata title to his extensive poker resume. He won the $500+60+$100 Black Chip Bounty Deep Stack post-lim event, earning $16,881 and pushing his lifetime earnings close to $6.7 million.

John McGuinness and Eric Siegel both claimed their fourth Borgata titles during this series, joining a very short list of players who can claim that honor. All guarantees were covered and millions in prize money was paid out to hundreds of participants! A complete list of Main Event winners is below.

Make plans now to join us for the World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open, September 3rd – 20th. Until then, check out the Summer Heater, running August 12-17, and the next DeepStacks Challenge Series, running August 19-25.

Ryan Dodd raised to 125,000 from early position and Alex Lin called from the button. The big blind called and they went three handed to the flop.

The action checked to Lin who tossed out a bet of 80,000 and the big blind folded. Dodd check-raised to 225,000 and after giving it some thought Lin folded.

Dodd tabled his for just king high as he added another pot to his monster stack.
