  • The striker rod of a sliding selector mechanism is guided across the gearbox by the driver and moves the guard to expose the slot in a sleeve. The striker rod enters the slot, and further movement of the gear lever slides the sleeve along its rod to engage a gear. A locking ball engages a recess in the rod to hold the sleeve.
  • To almost 65% during assembly. The maximum peg insertion depth is 7.95 mm at a slot diameter of 2.0 mm. The major benefits of such a mechanism using IPMC are that the mechanism is light-weight and all links are flexible, it is easy to control the IPMC and path correction is also achieved easily during assembly.

Thank you so, so much for the marvellous Instructable. I did a Harry Potter themed wood carving which lights up at night. I needed a cover for the back for the batteries that I could remove and replace without having to take the back covers off. I wanted the battery cover to look like the door to the chamber of secrets, so I cut out a snake knot door and added it to a slight variation on your design above and it worked perfectly. Now I can remove the back by twisting and lifting it off, and replace it and lock it back into place with a twist. Marvellous!
I don't have a laser cutter by the way, so I used a scroll saw, and I used ice lolly sticks for the arms. It worked perfectly.

Examined the low-flow limit in slot coating of aqueous solutions of low molecular weight PEG and high molecular weight PEO by both experiments and theory. A benchtop slot coating apparatus was used to visualize the coating bead at different ranges of operating conditions and observe the breakup mechanism.
